Hypermobility and Aesthetic Performing Artists (2 hours)
Hypermobility is more prevalent in aesthetic performing artists such as dancers and circus artists. Often diagnosis and appropriate management of hypermobility related disorders is delayed because the multi-system effects of connective tissue disorders are not recognized as part of an underlying connective tissue disorder. A better understanding of these disorders can help hypermobile artists to optimize their health and perform to the best of their ability.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
a. Differentiate causes of hypermobility including Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders.
b. Recognize signs and symptoms of these disorders that are often overlooked or misunderstood in performing artists.
c. Apply strategies to support the health of and optimize performance in hypermobile aesthetic performing artists.
